It’s a stunning video presentation which, for the majority of the runtime, will make your jaw drop. If Gravity took us into orbit and Sunshine took us to the sun then Interstellar takes us beyond both with wormholes, space anomalies, alien planets and other dimensions. While I personally found the sheer loudness of Zimmer's score to be irritating in the theater, I found that my home viewing experience was much better. The scenes in question – like when the team ventures through the worm hole – are still really loud, but the dialogue is still intelligible. I actually quite liked the engulfing, entrancing quality of Zimmer's score this time around. I also immensely enjoyed the heaps of bass thundering forth from my sub. If you're a fan of low-end sonics, then this is surely the sound mix for you.

However, unlike 'Inception', whilst I think I've fully understood all those concepts (which are again linked to a theme of 'time'), I remain unhappy about one particular set of scenes which I believe are not necessarily a 'plot hole' but are certainly hard to prove as 'viable' without a LOT of investment in the theory of time 'science' or believability (and yes, I have studied the theories of Einstein !) - I have covered that a bit at the end of this review, after the dashed line, as it contains spoilers... Across all Dimensions and Time (09:02) - The design and realisation of the tesseract seen in the film's final act. The included extras are all presented in high definition and provide an in-depth look at the making of the film and are generally excellent, in fact our only real complaint would be that there's no 'play all' feature for the various sections which means you have to select each one individually. This movie needs no review. Being directed by Christopher Nolan, you know exactly what to expect. There are some who find him over-rated and some who absolutely love everything he does. I belong to the latter category. So if you are one of many who loved the movie, you probably have already bought this blu-ray.

TARS and CASE (09:27) - A detailed look at the two intelligent mobile machines in the film, how they were designed and brought to life for the film. Some people thought the idea of this betrayal and fight was stupid. I think it served a purpose and made sense. Mann was agreed by all to be the best of them. He lead the missions into the wormhole as man’s salvation despite the odds against his personal salvation. What we learned though was that facing the stark reality of death, alone on that dead world when all he had to do was hit that transmitter to tell Earth this planet was habitable for a chance at rescue was too terrifying a prospect. Mann, noblest of all the astronauts, betrayed his principals and that of the entire mission to save himself. He then went on to try to kill another to further his survival when confronted with losing Endurance. Man(n)’s survival instinct is paramount.

Christopher Nolan has been in my movie 'Hall of Fame' for many years, by virtue of his previous efforts, most notably the intriguing 'Memento', the mesmerising 'Insomnia', the spectacular 'Batman Begins', the thought-provoking 'The Prestige', the enthralling 'The Dark Knight' and (most recently) the utterly captivating 'Inception' - which for me tops them all and firmly sits at the top of the pile, alongside Michael Mann's 'Manhunter', as my most favourite film. I first saw this film in the cinema and I've just received and watched the Digibook Blu-ray - Hurray ! Life on Cooper's Farm—Bringing Americana and the grounded nature of a farm to a sci-fi space movie.Why go to Miller’s planet at this point when it made no sense? They went because it helped the story. Murph on earth aged twenty three more years. She is a grown woman and a gifted physicist working under a much older Professor Brand who took her under his win when Cooper left. She now plays a much bigger part in the story. We get to see the emotion of missing twenty three years of your kids’ lives in a couple of hours. We get to see what another couple of decades on Earth has revealed as conditions grow steadily worse. Choosing Miller’s planet to be first is a plot hole present only to assist the story. It is contradictory to what anyone in this situation would have done. This was a story telling decision to bring home emotional loss, the situation at earth, allow a character to mature, and lastly demonstrate the impact of relativity. I give the filmmakers a pass on this choice although I wish they had found a better way to make these points. The Cosmic Sounds of Interstellar (13:40) - Hans Zimmer discusses how he wrote and recorded the score for the film. Interstellar launches onto 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with an absolutely stunning HEVC / H.265 encoded 2160p transfer. The UHD Blu-ray was reviewed on a Samsung UE55KS8000 Ultra HD TV and a Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
